Folkestone Edwardian Refurbishment

PROJECT OVERVIEW

This project involved the refurbishment and extension of a run-down Edwardian family home on a large plot in the seaside town of Folkestone.

The existing layout no longer worked for family life. The clients wanted to create a generous master suite with dressing area and ensuite, a much larger kitchen and dining space, and a more usable playroom for the children. The brief included a double-storey side extension and a front extension to form a more welcoming and functional hallway.

HOW WE HELPED

Our role included:

• Reviewing the existing layout and developing alternative arrangements to improve flow and functionality

• Reconfiguring the ground floor to create a spacious kitchen and dining area, and combining smaller rooms to form a garden-facing living space

• Redesigning the first floor to accommodate a master suite and an additional family bathroom

• Developing a cohesive style and design direction that reinstated period features while integrating the new extensions seamlessly

• Producing 3D models to support decision-making and confirm the design before construction

• Providing full interior design services, including detailed drawings and schedules

• Supporting the client throughout the build, working closely with them as they project managed the construction

THE RESULT

The completed home is a comfortable, well-balanced family house with a clear sense of flow and generous, practical spaces. The extensions integrate seamlessly with the original building, making it difficult to distinguish between old and new, while the design language and finishes remain consistent throughout.
