Canterbury Contemporary Rural New Build
Project overview
This project involved the design and development of a contemporary new build in a rural setting near Canterbury. Working closely with the developer from an early stage, the aim was to create a home that felt warm, inviting and balanced — softening the architectural lines of the build while maintaining a clean, contemporary feel.
Alongside the overall aesthetic, careful consideration was given to the layout to ensure the house functioned well as a family home, with a strong sense of flow and well-proportioned spaces throughout.
⸻
How we helped
Our role included:
• Reviewing and refining the layout to improve flow, functionality and overall balance
• Reconfiguring the ground floor to create a spacious, open-plan kitchen, dining and living area, alongside a separate media room
• Redesigning the first floor to accommodate four well-proportioned bedrooms, including two ensuites and a master suite with a walk-in dressing room
• Developing a cohesive style and design direction to bring warmth and softness to the contemporary architecture
• Producing 3D models to support decision-making and provide clarity ahead of construction
• Delivering full design and technical documentation for contractors and trades
• Supporting the client throughout the build process, working alongside them as they managed construction
• Creating visual material to support the marketing of the property and engage potential buyers
⸻
The result
The completed home is a calm, well-balanced family house with a clear sense of flow and generously proportioned spaces. A consistent design language runs throughout, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere that enhances the contemporary architecture.
The property was successfully sold off-plan using the visual material developed during the design process.
