Hythe Edwardian Refurbishment

PROJECT OVERVIEW

This beautiful Edwardian villa had suffered extensive damage following a devastating fire. We became involved at an early stage of the rebuilding process, working closely with the client to look beyond the immediate challenges and explore how the home could be restored and improved for modern family living.

The project provided a unique opportunity to reimagine the layout while respecting the character and proportions of the original house. Alongside the overall aesthetic direction, careful consideration was given to the flow between spaces, ensuring the finished home would feel both elegant and practical for everyday family life.

______

HOW WE HELPED:

Our role included:

• Reviewing and refining the layout to improve flow, functionality and overall balance.

• Reconfiguring the ground floor to create a generous open-plan kitchen, dining and living space, complete with a walk-in larder, alongside a separate media room and additional reception room.

• Redesigning the first and second floors to accommodate five well-proportioned bedrooms, including a spacious principal suite with a large dressing room and ensuite, and two further family bathrooms.

• Developing a cohesive design direction that respected the home’s Edwardian character while introducing a softer, lighter aesthetic inspired by its coastal setting.

• Producing detailed 3D models to support decision-making and provide clarity throughout the design process.

• Delivering comprehensive design and technical documentation for contractors and trades.

• Supporting the client throughout the construction phase, working alongside them as they managed the build.

_______

THE RESULT

The completed home is a calm, welcoming family house that successfully combines period character with contemporary living. Generous proportions, carefully considered layouts and a consistent design language create a strong sense of flow throughout, while soft colours, natural materials and subtle coastal influences bring warmth and lightness to this beautifully restored Edwardian property.
